Bishop of Colorado Springs Michael Sheridan stated that Catholic politicians who advocate for the legalization of abortion or same-sex marriage, as well as their fellow believers who vote for them, should not receive Communion, reports the portal “Pravoslavie.by” with reference to Catholic World News (CWN).
In an interview with the Colorado Springs Gazette, the bishop said, “that in accordance with the Code of Canon Law (Canon 915), a public official belonging to the Catholic Church who openly holds a position contrary not only to the dogmatic teaching of the Church but also to moral teaching should not receive Holy Communion until he publicly renounces his views.”
“Applying the same measures to individual Catholic voters would have ‘a bit more nuance,’” the bishop said.
In connection with the vice-presidential debates on October 11, 2011, Roman Catholic U.S. Vice President Joe Biden once again reaffirmed his position in favor of a woman’s “freedom” to kill her unborn child through abortion. Recall that U.S. President Barack Obama voted more than once for “partial-birth abortions,” which, by inducing labor, allow the child to be partially born and then kill the child at that moment. Even 80-90% of people who generally support abortion oppose this “partial-birth abortion.”
