Famous American preacher compares USA to Sodom and Gomorrah
Renowned 93-year-old American Baptist preacher Billy Graham has published an open letter to the nation online, in which he states that his country is drifting further and further away from God.
He begins his letter with the words of his now deceased wife Ruth, who several years ago said, “If God doesn’t punish America, He will have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah” — cities from the Old Testament that were destroyed by God for the persistence of their inhabitants in sin, reports the portal Interfax-Religion.
“Millions of babies have been killed in their mothers’ wombs, and our country, for the most part, seems unconcerned. Selfish indulgence, pride, and a lack of shame over committed sin — these are now the hallmarks of the American way of life,” quotes the Christian Post website from the preacher’s words.
Graham cites several examples of the oppression of Christians in the country, in particular, an incident where chaplains serving in police departments were forbidden to utter the name of Christ during prayer.
“Our society strives to avoid any possibility of offending anyone — except God. The further we distance ourselves from God, the more the world spirals out of control. My heart aches for America and its deceived people,” the author of the letter confessed.
At the same time, in his opinion, Americans still have a chance to repent and change their way of life.
“The wonderful news is that the Lord is a God of mercy, and He responds to repentance. In the days of the prophet Jonah, the city of Nineveh had no equal in power; it was rich, carefree, and self-centered. When Jonah came to Nineveh and proclaimed God’s warning, the people heard and repented,” he added.
