Provisions of American laws that define marriage as a union between a man and a woman have been ruled unconstitutional. As Reuters reports, this decision was made on Thursday, October 18, by the U.S. Court of Appeals in New York. A U.S. court has declared the definition of marriage as a union between a man and a woman unlawful!(?)

The court was approached by an 83‑year‑old lesbian, Edith Windsor, with decades of “experience,” who claimed that the law discriminates against same‑sex homosexual marriages in violation of the U.S. Constitution. Two(?) of the three members of the judicial panel supported her: the concept of marriage must equally take into account both traditional and homosexual unions.
(Before long, this will come down to bestiality “unions,” if some pervert — a zoophile — files a lawsuit claiming that his right to gratify himself by means of the livestock he so passionately loves is being violated constitutionally.)

Windsor’s lawsuit relied primarily on a financial issue. The lady sought to prove that members of a same‑sex family equally share rights and privileges.

Programmer Edith Windsor and her partner Clara Spyer married in Toronto in 2007. Their relationship lasted a total of 44 years. Spyer died in 2009 after a long battle with multiple sclerosis.

It should be noted that six American states, including New York, have legalized same‑sex marriages, but they are not recognized at the federal level. So it was in this case — because the law did not recognize the two women’s relationship, Edith Windsor had to pay more than three hundred thousand dollars in income tax.

This is already the second such ruling by a U.S. appellate instance. The final fate of the law will have to be decided by the Supreme Court.

The Republican majority in the House of Representatives, meanwhile, defends the current state of affairs. In Windsor’s case, their arguments were that saving money is in the interests of the American government, and that the law should encourage childbearing.
