An anti-religious, blasphemous provocation in Moscow, at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, apparently planned and organized by 'former' ones, and there are no former ones and 'former' ones do not hide it!
A grand scandal is erupting in Russia, provoked by a punk group with a vulgarly shameless name “Pussy Riot” (which in English means “female genital riot”), who staged a blasphemous, scandalous, anti‑religious, sacrilegious action:
On February 21, 2012, two weeks before Russia’s presidential election, standing in front of the altar in Christ the Savior Cathedral in Moscow, openly dissolute and insolent wenches (with criminal pasts), grimacing, jumping, and foolishly bowing prostrations before the altar, performed a “song” of an anti‑religious, extremely blasphemous character. They themselves called what happened a “punk prayer service.” The insulting performance lasted no more than five minutes — then the blasphemers were pushed out of the church.
The restored cathedral at the end of the rule of Russia’s first president, Boris Yeltsin
But why such a resonance? Because the spiritually sound Christian community saw in this blasphemy a sign of the beginning of a revanche, of evil and darkness over light and goodness! And here is why:
The Cathedral of Christ the Savior is symbolic! In the history of Russia, this Cathedral became a sacred battlefield of good and evil. That is why the new barbarians — the Communists — blew up the Cathedral in 1931, thus “celebrating” the “final” victory of evil and atheism in the USSR. Besides this, it was and is considered the main Orthodox cathedral of Russia, located near the Moscow Kremlin on the Moscow River. The cathedral was restored under Yeltsin. On July 16, 1992, Yeltsin signed a Decree “On the creation of a fund for the revival of Moscow,” in which the Cathedral of Christ the Savior was listed first among objects for construction and reconstruction.
It is no secret to many that they, that is, the punk group “Pussy Riot,” are not acting on their own; they have an owner‑client, meaning that this provocative action was paid for by someone and is being actively stirred up. But by whom? For what? And most importantly, why, as if by magic, instantly and to great astonishment, a huge mass of defenders and even admirers appeared for the dissolute female provocateurs! They are not only being turned into heroes but are also being extolled as fearless denouncers of the “stinking religion,” sufferers for frankness and bold outspokenness!
Sergey Dorenko, editor‑in‑chief of the Russian News Service, reported that an interdepartmental task force was set up to search for the participants of “Pussy Riot,” which is “under the control of the Second” person in Russia, whose identity Dorenko declined to specify.
Later, the dissolute women were nonetheless arrested for hooliganism. In response, a storm of protest arose in the media, and protest groups began “to be created” for picketing in defense of the “innocently murdered” denouncers by bloodthirsty religionists. The dissolute blasphemers are presented as fearless denouncers of Orthodoxy, that in this extraordinary way they expressed protest against the violation of the rights of atheists, and… (brace yourselves, don’t fall over) non‑Orthodox confessions! That is, the “girls” came out in defense of Protestants — charismatics, Baptists, Pentecostals, etc. Do you guess where this is heading?
It becomes crystal clear that this anti‑religious scandal turning into psychosis was ordered, paid for by someone, and is now being steered with a sure hand — protests, pickets, publications in defense (!) not of the Orthodox Church and not of religion in general, but of the punk group “Pussy Riot” — meaning that behind this there is a serious organization or a very serious person with great power, big money, and influence.
Every provocation has a definite and clearly set goal. So it has always been!
To reveal someone or something, or to provoke something. A classic example:
In order to start persecution against the meek early Christians, the opponents of Christianity, as it turned out — secret provocateurs from Emperor Nero himself(!) — brought a representative, a confidant of the Roman emperor Nero, to the celebration of the Lord’s Supper, but they brought him at the “right” moment and the emperor’s representative heard with horror: “Drink, this is the blood of Christ! Eat, this is the body of Christ.” That’s it! Enough for a trial‑persecution — these are “perverts” — who engage in “cannibalism”! That’s it! Nero is not at all to blame! He’s on the side! — his confidant saw and heard everything himself, and he — the confidant — identified and pointed to the sacred victim! And then the matter of the burning of Rome by Nero himself — it turned out to be not far off. Nero actively used this provocation, which he himself organized.
Moreover: Provocations are carried out to determine the mood in society, to stir up and get society talking, to mobilize and test society’s readiness to consent to certain actions or changes; for this purpose the provocation is made and by this it is determined — whether it is possible…, whether it is time… — to designate and offer up a sacred victim. So now we must expect that a victim will be determined and designated. Be assured, it will not be the punk group “Pussy Riot” themselves who will be sacrificed, seeing that they are already openly defended by “secret” like‑minded people from among the common “people.” Now certain forces need to rock the situation and show a new barbarism, and the new barbarians are those who support adherents of Christian morality and culture — ah, how intolerant these religionists are! — it turns out that in reality Christianity is wild and mossy! an inquisitorial, medieval intolerance toward the punk group Pussy Riot, and that is barbarism!
A remarkable fact! One of the most active defenders of the punk group “Pussy Riot” is Gudkov Sr., a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation and… he is also a former KGB colonel! On March 16, he organizes a rally on Pushkin Square in support and defense of the punk group(?) But as is well known, and Vladimir Putin himself admitted: “There are no former KGB officers.” This was confirmed by Gudkov himself in an interview with journalist Maxim Shevchenko, while also specifying that he had worked for the KGB since… the age of sixteen!(?)
(Please note from the ninth minute to the thirteenth inclusive, the former head of the party organization of the KGB counterintelligence of the USSR, Gudkov, reveals that almost the entire government, including the president of Russia and the speaker of the State Duma, are all people from the “firm,” i.e., former KGB officers! To the rhetorical question of the host, how exactly does the “opposition” leader, FSB reserve colonel Gudkov, “fight” against FSB reserve colonel President Putin – no answer was given.) So is it not from there that the wind of swift changes blows? from the “firm” of Mr. Gudkov’s employer?
And how skillfully the blasphemous orgy in the Temple is covered up:
The debauched girls at the end of the blasphemous action, bowing low, shouted: Mother of God! Drive Putin away!
This is a classic KGB technique, a cover! — This is how they divert attention from the mastermind.
But a scapegoat will certainly be appointed!
Pay attention: this provocation took place right before the Russian presidential election. The group “Pussy Riot” formed in late September 2011, that is, in time for the elections, positioning itself as part of the opposition. They repeatedly hooliganized, advocated for abortions, sexual depravity, feminism, homosexuality, against childbearing, for the release of criminals from prisons and of course… for Putin’s resignation. By the way, by defending the extreme immorality and debauchery of the provocateurs, an illusion of freedom in Russia is created. Against this backdrop the persecution of believers looks unreal. But the main thing and the moment of truth is this:
Before the presidential election on March 4, a wave of protest against falsifications was expected. So a provocation was needed that would associate the opposition with “Pussy Riot,” and this, with the light hand of Gudkov, was done brilliantly by the “former” ones!!! The provocation, through the debauched girls, struck the opposition in such a way that now, in the eyes of the people, the opposition is a bunch of flawed degenerates on the level of “Pussy Riot”! That is, “the rebellion of female genitals” is the opposition, and the opposition is “the rebellion of female genitals”! “Bravo,” Gudkov, the “former” ones participated well in the elections – they duped the opposition so that no one would guess!!! And it boomeranged against the Church and even the Jews! The provocation, through excessive attention in the controlled media, stirred up passions and contradictions in society, setting everyone against everyone.
“The rebellion of female genitals” “speaks out” for Putin’s resignation, thus tying the opposition to themselves—through Gudkov—and dragging its face through the mud! Saying, look, the opposition—Putin’s opponents—are blasphemers! If before they blew up the Temple—now there will be a den of iniquity in the church! Why blow up churches? They can be made empty—when such an opposition is in power! It is clear that the conductors of the situation are serious professionals. And Putin hasn’t even taken office yet. What else is to come!
Gudkov – leader of the opposition, defender of blasphemy in the temple, works at a rally among the opposition
Recently, opposition leader FSB reserve colonel Gudkov organized a rally on Pushkin Square in Moscow. His role is that of a modern-day provocateur – like the priest Gapon, who led thousands of believers to be shot on Bloody Sunday in 1905. In the same way, believers are now being provoked against the real opposition and the godless post-Soviet society of Russia.
—————
Heating up attention to the punk group “Rebellion of female genitals,” Gudkov is already acting without restraint! Using his deputy mandate, he organized gatherings in defense of the debauched blasphemers; at his invitation, photographers and cameramen with professional cameras rushed in. Exactly like the provocation of the “sacrifice of a girl” by Ivan Fedotov back in the distant 1960s
This situation is not new. Persecution in Soviet times was always preceded by a provocation, both from outside and within the church. Usually: publications in newspapers, television and radio broadcasts. Either a “reformed” sectarian “confesses” before an atheist audience how he cheated on his wife at love feasts and how he personally! by order of the “leaders” tortured apostates from the sectarian faith. Or some provocateur is dragged onto the radio to “speak” in an “other tongue” – “to prophesy” and frighten the common folk, with a far-reaching and transparent hint: – it’s better not to associate with sectarians, and if you meet a sectarian, just in case—strike first!
And then the conclusion: – look, what savage barbarians these sectarians are – they do not let children study, they don’t read books or newspapers, they arrange “pigeon nights” i.e. orgies! they sacrifice children!
They are tied to the Americans – accursed spies! Politicians, fanatics, and moreover – slanderers, anti-Soviet elements. And after that, that’s it! the ground is ready – lock up anyone, to the delight of the marginal crowd. And they did lock up! regardless of age and a large family. The crowd not only supports but also participates. Remember the crowd shouting “Crucify Him! Crucify!”. The followers of Christ were not only beaten and maimed but also killed. There’s your sacred sacrifice! We’ve already been through this!
This is Neronism in the past, Gaponism yesterday, Sinichism today!
And provocateurs are always in demand, their work is “hard” like the work of an executioner—not everyone can bear it; new tasks await them—“denunciations” and “exposés.”

The expected reaction appeared. Comments, as if the voice of the “people.” Here are some of them, and there are thousands:
A photo from this video:
Moscow provocateur, an Orthodox “believer”, against the Orthodox
By the way, this denunciation video in support of the “Pussy Riot”, after my publication, was removed from YouTube by this Moscow “denouncer”! Isn’t that a strange coincidence? That was right after I pointed out the clone-like similarity with the Zhitomir provocateur! What is this! So as not to spotlight a particularly valuable Zhitomir provocateur, Aleksandr Sinitsky? Yes! They are easy to confuse with the Zhitomir blasphemer — that emphatically slovenly punk-“denouncer”! — (photo below), he gesticulates the same way, — only with his left hand, he hasn’t gotten involved in this topic yet! Both bald, slovenly, with criminal-looking faces(!?). Maybe this is the denouncer uniform? They live in different cities and states, but apparently went to the same school. The Moscow one, in the photo above, put on a sheepskin — a large Orthodox cross over his sweater, so no one would doubt he is a “Christian” and therefore has the right to denounce hypocritical religionists, and placed a portrait of Medvedev behind him so no one would doubt he is against Putin. The Zhitomir one has a different sheepskin, this one for a fundamentally different audience — ranting about the Holy Spirit, the Blood of Jesus Christ, and speaking in other tongues — so no one would doubt that he, supposedly, has the right to denounce hypocritical charismatics and Pentecostals.
Zhitomir provocateur, a Protestant “believer”, against charismatics and Pentecostals
Apparently the image — this kind of emphatically slovenly punk-“denouncer” — a fighter for “purity” in the church, the manner of behaving impudently and confidently, “denouncing” in a vulgar, brotherly, “simple” way, was copied from the Ukrainian project, a project of successful infiltration of a provocateur—the Zhitomir one—into the Protestant environment. Even the cave-like setting and the camera position are similar.

Here is what the Moscow provocateur under the nickname ShutR1 says:
Well done, girls!!! These temples long ago ceased to be God’s house!!! And the whole leadership of the Russian Orthodox Church should be judged/imprisoned (with the exception of some, like protodeacon Andrei Kuraev — he seems to be a real believer indeed). And people like you… should also be imprisoned — people like you have the same attitude to faith as “popes in Lexuses.”
…You have no respect for the Orthodox faith, but you do have respect for money and the Russian Orthodox Church. That’s sad…
ShutR1
Notice how they defend Kuraev — a fighter against “sects” — Protestants. A cop’s passion — to judge/imprison.
Another YouTube commentator-provocateur, ukhof:
…respecting the interests of a herd of sheep (at the same time greedy and cruel) — that is nonsense… no sane person will respect the position of mentally defective degenerates promoting the Middle Ages…
the girls (whom I do not support one iota) did not violate a single article of the Criminal Code or the Administrative Offenses Code…
I, meanwhile, will continue to wait hopefully for the day when these vile god-shops will once again be smashed and the priests thrown from bell towers…
people like you should be imprisoned for 20 years…
ukhof
This provocateur speaks of a decent attitude toward God and the church as medieval. He longs for a repeat of the 1930s destruction of churches and murder of Orthodox priests.
Jesus needs money
God doesn’t direct anyone anywhere and Jesus doesn’t need anything from you, believe me ![]()
TZMRussia
And this provocateur has taken a swing at the Lord Jesus Christ, bearing false witness against Him and blaspheming.
yes… they did it, they showed that the church is no longer an authority and in a secular state it should stay out of politics
the Russian Orthodox Church has grown fat and is far from the people…
biggreenboberman
This provocateur presents the desired conclusion about the church for the people: supposedly the church has lost authority, must stop denouncing the authorities, has stolen a lot of money and become distant from the people… that is, it would not be a pity to deal with it and it is even necessary to do so — to punish the wanton one. That is, first they allowed provocateurs into the church, through whom they corrupted it with money, and now they are preparing society for silence in order to execute it publicly.
———
As you can see, the provocateurs-commentators on YouTube thirst for sacrifice — the blood of priests and the destruction of churches — nostalgia for the God-fighting Soviet times.

A little about the instructive history of the destruction of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior
«… the explosion of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior was the apogee and symbol of destruction and violence, the highest degree of humiliation of the Russian people, exactly as its revival in the old place will be the rebirth, the resurrection of Russia»
Vladimir Soloukhin
“The Last Step”
The year 1883 came into effect. View from the Kremlin.
The history of the destruction of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, blown up in 1931, began almost a decade and a half before its physical annihilation with a fact not directly related to the demolition of the Cathedral. In 1918, in the public garden near the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, the monument to Emperor Alexander III was dismantled.
The decree on monuments of the republic, adopted by the Council of People’s Commissars on April 12, 1918, stated: “Monuments erected in honor of tsars and their servants and presenting no interest either historically or artistically are subject to removal from squares and streets and partly to be moved to warehouses, partly to be used for utilitarian purposes. …”.
The cultural, social, ideological, and state policy of the new government left practically no chance for old Russia.
The tragic statistics of the first years of the revolution record murders of clergymen, confiscations of church property, openings of holy relics, bans on religious processions, desecrations of churches and monasteries, and their closure. The first demolitions of churches were shamefacedly justified by the need to widen and straighten streets in order to solve traffic problems. In June 1928, at a meeting in the Agitation and Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) on questions of anti-religious propaganda, an era of frenzied assault on religion began. Already in the first half of 1929 more than 400 churches were closed in the country, and the pace was accelerating: in August the same fate overtook a further 103 churches. At the end of 1929, arguably the most sacrilegious action of the twentieth century was carried out for the first time — an anti-Christmas event timed to coincide with the feast of the Nativity of Christ — a mocking festivity: in the A.M. Gorky Park of Culture and Recreation in Moscow about 100,000 people gathered. ‘…Bonfires of icons, religious books, caricature effigies, coffins of religion, etc., flared up spontaneously here and there.’ At the ‘Red Khamovniki’ skating rink a performance was staged: ‘Gods and priests with church chants rushed, waving crosses, at the Five-Year Plan; a detachment of Budyonny’s cavalrymen appeared and fired a volley; from the shots the church caught fire…’ (1)
The year 1929 became a turning point in yet another respect. The technique of destroying buildings changed — they began to be blown up…
In 1930 two campaigns were already carried out — an anti-Easter and an anti-Christmas one, and likewise in 1931. They were conducted under the slogans ‘For a godless Moscow, for a godless collective-farm village.’ (2)
‘We set ourselves the task,’ wrote the leaders of the League of Militant Atheists, ‘of securing the closure of churches and other houses of prayer in the city of Moscow in the workers’ centres and in the districts of total collectivisation, as well as the dissolution of church councils…’ (3)
And against this background, in an atmosphere of rising atheist shock-work and anti-religious hysteria, the Soviet leadership decided to demolish the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour and build in its place the grandiose edifice of the Palace of the Soviets.
The proposal to erect a ‘new palace of the workers and toiling peasants’ on the site of ‘the palaces of bankers, landowners and tsars’ was put forward by S.M. Kirov at the First Congress of Soviet Deputies, held in 1922. And in 1924 the necessity arose to perpetuate the memory of V.I. Lenin in connection with his death.
At first both ideas existed separately, and only at a certain stage did the thought arise of combining, in a single grandiose structure, a monument to the leader of the world proletariat and the Palace of the Soviets.
5 December 1931 — the blowing up of the cathedral.
Another point of departure in the development of the movement that ultimately led to the destruction of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour was an article by L.B. Krasin published on 2 February 1924, which proposed perpetuating the memory of V.I. Lenin in a whole series of architectural monuments across the entire territory of the USSR. And so in 1924 a proposal appeared from V. Balikhin, a graduate of VKHUTEMAS and one of the leaders of the Association of New Architects (ASNOVA), who essentially managed to synthesise the proposals of Kirov and Krasin into a single architectural programme. Balikhin proposed erecting on the site of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour a grandiose building that was to serve simultaneously as a monument to Lenin, to the Comintern, and to the formation of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.
But the proposal to erect a monument to Lenin on the site of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour evidently seemed sacrilegious at first even to party functionaries, who did not immediately dare to replace the cathedral consecrated to the God-Man with a monument to a leader who would thereby be deified in the mass consciousness — a monument to a ‘Man-God’. The Soviet government began to implement Kirov’s proposal to create the Palace almost ten years later — at the beginning of 1931. In February–May 1931 a first, preliminary competition for the construction of the Palace of the Soviets was organised; it was closed and attached particular importance precisely to the choice of a site for the monument.
On 2 June 1931, at a meeting held in Molotov’s office, the fate of the cathedral was finally decided: by I.V. Stalin’s personal direction, the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour was designated for demolition to make way for the construction in its place of the ‘main building of the country’ — the Palace of the Soviets.
On 16 June 1931, at a meeting of the Committee for Cult Affairs under the Presidium of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee, the following resolution was adopted: ‘In view of the allocation of the plot on which the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour is situated for the construction of the Palace of the Soviets, the said cathedral is to be liquidated and demolished. The Presidium of the Moscow Oblast Executive Committee is instructed to carry out the liquidation (closure) of the cathedral within ten days and to provide suitable premises for the community of believers and the Synod. The petition of the Economic Department of the OGPU for the washing-off of the gold, and the petition of the Palace of the Soviets construction project for the transfer of building materials, are to be submitted for consideration by the Secretariat of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee.’
On 18 July 1931, the newspaper Izvestia published the ‘Resolution on the competition for drawing up designs for the Palace of the Soviets’ on the site of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. Only on 10 May 1933 did the Council for the Construction of the Palace of the Soviets, by its resolution, adopt as a basis the design of the architect B. Iofan, according to which (after further development with the co-authorship of the architects A. Shchuko and G. Gelfreikh) the cathedral was to be replaced by a gigantic ‘Tower of Babel’, crowned with a colossal statue of Lenin (given the low cloud cover, the monument would only be wholly visible on the very clearest, sunniest days). The total height of the Palace of the Soviets would have been 415 metres — it was to become the tallest building not only in Moscow but in the whole world.
A very advantageous location from an urban planning perspective – the Cathedral stood on a hill, easily visible from all sides, and was situated near the Kremlin. This, together with the convergence of several anniversary dates, led to the haste with which the decision was made to demolish the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. In 1932, the 120th anniversary of the Patriotic War of 1812–1814 would be marked, as well as the 100th anniversary of the publication of the Manifesto signed by Nicholas I concerning the construction of the Cathedral according to K.A. Ton’s design. The Cathedral – a symbol of old Russia: Orthodox, bourgeois, merchant-class – the national memorial church was not to celebrate its centennial. Moreover, 1932 brought two more anniversaries: the 15th anniversary of the October Revolution and the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, which they wanted to commemorate by starting work on a grandiose monument that would immortalize both events. A new Moscow was to take shape around the Palace of Soviets, a Moscow with no place for “the accursed past and its monuments.”
Preparations for dismantling the Cathedral of Christ the Savior began immediately after the publication on July 18, 1931, in Izvestia, of the resolution announcing a competition for the design of the Palace of Soviets. However, ‘public opinion’ had been groomed for several years, long before and not directly connected with the Cathedral’s demolition. A systematic campaign of persecution was launched against the Cathedral of Christ the Savior: academicians of architecture publicly swore that it had no artistic value and was not a work of art. They did not hesitate either to lie outright or to denigrate Russian history; in the general torrent of lies and abuse, the isolated voices of those who tried to stop the crime were drowned out. Among the few defenders was the artist Apollinary Mikhailovich Vasnetsov – a priest’s son, a native of the Vyatka land, a Muscovite at heart, who sang the praises of the ancient capital in his canvases. Let us pay tribute to the blessed memory of this Russian man and of all the defenders of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior.
On the very day the competition resolution was published (July 18, 1931), a Commission, organized by the People’s Commissariat of Education, began its work to identify items of value in the already repeatedly looted Cathedral of Christ the Savior, for possible transfer to museums (valuables had been seized from the Cathedral’s sacristy on multiple occasions). After a month’s work, the Commission compiled a list of objects to be preserved: small fragments of wall paintings, a small part of the church plate, several high reliefs were recognized as having artistic significance and were handed over to museums. Everything else perished irretrievably.
On August 18, 1931, exactly one month after the Izvestia publication of the resolution on the Palace of Soviets competition, work began on dismantling the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. The area surrounding the Cathedral was fenced off. By the autumn of 1931, the demolition was in full swing, both outside and inside simultaneously. The work was done in great haste: sheets of the roof and dome cladding were thrown down, smashing the facing and the sculptures. The cross thrown from the Cathedral did not fall to the ground but got caught in the dome’s reinforcing bars (apparently, that was when the photograph shown here was taken). The beautiful Cathedral was dying before the eyes of all Moscow and all Russia.
Ruins after the explosion. 1931–1932.
It proved impossible to dismantle the Cathedral to its foundations, so it was decided to blow it up.
On December 5, 1931, at 12 noon, the memorial church of military glory, the Main Cathedral of Russia, was barbarously destroyed.
After the first explosion, the Cathedral still stood; a new charge of explosives had to be planted. Within a few hours, it was all over. The national spiritual shrine of Russia was reduced to ruins…
Marble from the Cathedral was used to decorate the Kropotkinskaya and Okhotny Ryad metro stations; benches adorned the Novokuznetskaya station. Some of the plaques bearing the names of heroes of the Patriotic War of 1812 were crushed and sprinkled on pathways in Moscow parks, while others were used to finish city buildings…
The Palace of Soviets was to have been inaugurated in 1933, but clearing away the rubble of the Cathedral after the explosion alone took nearly a year and a half. The construction of the Palace of Soviets, which really only began in 1937, was never fated to be completed. By 1939, the foundations of the high-rise section, the main entrance, and the side facing Volkhonka were laid. However, by September–October 1941, the metal structures prepared for assembly had already been used to make anti-tank hedgehogs for the defense of Moscow, and soon the building, which had barely risen above ground level, had to be dismantled entirely: after the occupation of the Donbass in 1942, the steel structures of the Palace of Soviets were taken down and used to build bridges for a railway line constructed to supply the central regions of the country with northern coal.
After the war, the Palace of Soviets construction administration still existed; the architect Iofan continued to refine his unfulfillable project. It was only in 1960 that further design work on the Palace of Soviets was finally halted. The construction site next to the Kremlin lay desolate, and not only because the country, rising from ruins, lacked the strength and means for such grandiose construction – after all, those were the years when the famous Moscow ‘vysotki’ skyscrapers were being built. The idea that had inspired the creators of the gigantic project had died. Too much had changed in people’s minds after the Great Patriotic War…
…For many years after the explosion, a monstrous pit gaped on the site of the majestic Cathedral, and in 1958, during Khrushchev’s godless “thaw,” the Moskva swimming pool appeared there, a monument to the desecration and oblivion of the nation’s glory and history, which did not fit into the templates of the “builders of communism.”
The speech of ordinary Muscovites, which usually responds quickly to all sorts of novelties in city life, appraised the event thus: “First there was a Cathedral, then — trash, and now — shame.”
Blasphemy of the Khrushchev “thaw” era – construction of the Moskva swimming pool on the site of the cathedral.
And yet the Cathedral, destroyed in 1931, continued to live, although in its place splashed the heavily chlorinated waters of an open-air pool. The memory of the Cathedral was preserved in the pages of Russian classics, works of memoirs, and living Moscow legends. For instance, as early as 1930, Muscovites and all those to whom the Cathedral of Christ the Savior was dear, copied by hand the poem by N.V. Arnold dedicated to the Cathedral.
The Cathedral of Christ the Savior continued to live because for many, many people it became the embodiment of the losses Russia suffered in the 20th century, a symbol of the Russian Golgotha.
Ancient, deeply-rooted, Orthodox Moscow cherished the memory of the Cathedral in its heart. And so, at the end of the 1980s, a public movement of Muscovites and all Russians for the revival of the Cathedral arose, and at this stage its new history begins
