In the Yaroslavl region, investigators have clarified the circumstances of the death of a man whose mummified and dismembered body was found in a vacant lot in the summer. It turned out that the deceased’s wife did not bury his body and waited three years for the resurrection of the deceased. Having lost hope, she disposed of the body before moving to a new place of residence. Meanwhile, the offender’s children detached the head and hand of the deceased, and then threw the remains in a dump.
After the discovery of the gruesome find, a criminal case was opened under Article 105 of the Russian Criminal Code (murder). However, investigators concluded that the man’s death was non-violent, reports the official website of the regional Investigative Committee.
“On July 5, 2012, in an open area in the village of Semibratovo, Rostov District, plastic bags tied together with tape were found in the grass containing the headless body of a man without his right arm, in a mummified state,” the press release said.
During the search for the alleged killer, it was established that the deceased, contrary to the initial version, died a natural death. He was the head of a large family that lived from 2005 to 2012 in the village of Semibratovo. The family had three sons born in 2001 and 2007, and three daughters born in 1993, 1998, and 2003.
“The parents practiced the religion of the Church of Christians of Evangelical Faith (Pentecostals, a Protestant denomination) and were very devout,” the detectives explained. “The head of the family had previously been involved in missionary work in the Republic of Buryatia.”
The Protestant family “lived in isolation, and outsiders were not allowed in,” the investigators noted. The children did not attend preschool and were raised by their mother, who had a higher pedagogical education in preschool education. However, in August 2009, the head of the family died after a serious illness.
“The widow of the deceased, who had a mental disorder exacerbated by the grief over her husband’s death, convinced herself that the man would resurrect,” the Investigative Committee’s release stated. The woman not only did not bury her husband but did not even report his death and forbade the children from telling anyone about what had happened. For three years, from August 14, 2009, to July 2, 2012, the body of the deceased “was on the bed in the apartment room” where his family lived.
Moreover, the widow asked the children to go into the room every day where the decomposing corpse was and care for their father. The sons and daughters’ duties included “communicating” with him. They were also supposed to “feed their father broth.”
“The woman herself did not enter the room, fearing that if she entered prematurely, the miracle of resurrection would not occur,” the investigators added.
The children, worried about their mother, played along with her madness, although they understood the truth. They told the widow that their father talked to them and consumed food. The household masked the smells of decay in the apartment with air fresheners, and to all questions about their father they answered that he was simply ill.
The bizarre situation was resolved in the summer of 2012 when the family moved to a new place of residence, in one of the settlements of the Yaroslavl region. Before this, the woman finally decided to get rid of her husband’s corpse, having lost all hope of his miraculous revival. In addition, she feared that the human mummy left in the apartment might be discovered by outsiders.
“Fearing public exposure of the whole situation, on the night of July 3, 2012, the daughters of the deceased, aged fourteen and nine, on their own initiative packed the body in plastic bags, carried it out of the house and hid it in the bushes,” the press release said. “During the move, the head and right arm separated from the body, which the children placed in a plastic bag and threw into a garbage container at the dump.”
At present, the widow, given her mental state, does not pose an immediate danger to herself or others. Examinations have not revealed any mental disorders in her children.
The murder case was closed due to the absence of a crime event.
Investigators reported the information about the attempted resurrection to the authorities for the prevention of child neglect and juvenile delinquency, in case of possible violations of children’s rights in the family of the deceased Pentecostal missionary.
