State of California: Local legislators legalized the rejection of morality in schools and kindergartens!
In California, transgender schoolchildren will officially be allowed to choose locker rooms and restrooms at their own discretion starting January 1. As CNN reports, this is the first time such a law has been enacted at the state level.
The law was signed on Monday, August 12, by Governor Jerry Brown. It applies to both schoolchildren and children attending kindergartens, notes BBC News.
In practice, the law means that starting in 2014, in all California educational institutions, girls who feel like boys will be able to use the boys’ restroom or locker room, or join a boys’ sports team, and vice versa. According to the intent of the law’s authors, this way transgender children will not feel isolated.
Previously, on August 7, the bill was passed by the state senate by a vote of 21 to 9. Critics of the initiative pointed out that the new rules infringe on the rights of ordinary students, who will be uncomfortable seeing members of the opposite sex in locker rooms and restrooms. Furthermore, they argued that the law could be exploited by perpetrators for various sex crimes. Supporters of the initiative responded that similar practices had already been implemented in many educational institutions, and no problems had arisen for students.
Similar rules regarding transgender children had been in effect in most California schools before, but they were not codified legislatively. Currently, a similar practice is also applied in the states of Massachusetts and Connecticut.
