Mayor of Sumy advises Ukrainians to emigrate
Mayor of Sumy Hennadiy Minaiev advised young people to emigrate from Ukraine.
He said this in an interview with “Gazeta po-ukrayinsky”.
To the question of where Ukrainians should see prospects, Minaiev answered:
“I advise everyone under 35 to leave the country. There are no prospects here. Having analyzed the country’s movement after the Orange Revolution, I see the unwillingness of the political elite to change anything. Ukraine is for the old, for people like me. We will live out our days here and try to preserve something.”
Minaiev sees one of the negative scenarios for Ukraine as a return to the Soviet Union.
“This is the only real roadmap that they are trying to implement. So I say: everyone who wants to live in a normal democratic country, where everyone is responsible for themselves, should leave here,” he said.
In Minaiev’s opinion, Ukraine will be “saved or destroyed by the oligarchs.”
“If they realize that unification with Russia will lead to their demise, they will pull us toward Europe. Otherwise, they will be devoured. I mean Akhmetov, Kolomoisky, Pinchuk, Firtash and all those on the Forbes list,” he said.
To the question of whether mass protests are possible in Ukraine, in his opinion, Minaiev replied: “The people will not go anywhere anymore. In the coming decades, for sure. For example, you couldn’t drag me to any Maidan with a tractor.”
In February, the Sumy City Council supported Minaiev’s proposal to demolish all Lenin monuments in the city.
