A Site is Being Sought for the Demolished Pentecostal Church in Moscow
On October 15, during the round table “Experience of Interaction between Religious Confessions and State Authorities in the Subjects of the Russian Federation,” Veronika Kravchuk, Advisor to the Department for Interregional Cooperation, National Policy and Relations with Religious Organizations, touched upon the issue of the demolition of the “Holy Trinity Church” in the Moscow district “Novokosino.”
“First of all, I would ask not to look for political reasons in the demolition of the ‘Holy Trinity Church.’ There is no persecution of Protestants or any other confession in Moscow,” – stated Veronika Kravchuk. On behalf of the Moscow government, she assured that currently not only a plot of land but also a rental space is being sought where believers can gather while the issue of land and construction is being resolved. However, this process is not fast. A criminal case has been initiated, as during the demolition of the building part of the church property was plundered. But the mayor has given instructions to coordinate and allocate a plot. “I hope that questions will be resolved constructively in the future.”
According to her, one of the reasons for the lengthy resolution of the issue is the not entirely constructive position of the prefecture, and there is even talk of providing the church with a plot in another administrative district. This option would be, according to the pastor of the “Holy Trinity Church” Vasily Romanyuk, “not very desirable, since the congregation is very local; a significant number of parishioners live nearby, many of them elderly. I think everything will be decided not at the prefecture level, but through a strong-willed decision of the mayor or his deputies, the Department of Property, Moskomarchitektura, then the matter will get off the ground. And now everything is at the level of correspondence and approvals. A month for a request, a month for an answer, and so on…”
