Relations between UOC-MP and UOC-KP are heating up again
Recently, the head of the UOC-KP Filaret stated that with the new government in power, they are trying to take away his churches. The Primate assures that cases where churches transfer to the Moscow Patriarchate are becoming more and more.
“In the Rivne region, they began convening the population and agitating for a transfer to the Moscow Patriarchate. In Odessa, the press-secretary of Metropolitan Vladimir declared that the Kyiv Patriarchate must be liquidated. We built a church in Makarov with money from the Kyiv Patriarchate. And they re-registered this church to Moscow,” he told, reports “Today”«.
A similar story is also in Yahotyn. Here, the Trinity Cathedral became a stumbling block. In the 1800s it was built by Hetman Kyrylo Razumovsky; in the 1930s it was destroyed by the Communists; in 1994 the state undertook its restoration; and on March 29, 2012, the still unfinished cathedral was transferred to the balance of local authorities. “We not only consecrated this place, but also gave money for the restoration of the church, and now the Moscow Patriarchate wants to take it for itself. And the Yahotyn authorities wanted to hand over the church to them last week,” lamented Filaret.
In the UOC (MP) they assure that it is not so. “Nobody was close to transferring anything to us. The cathedral was being restored as an architectural monument, as a museum. To serve there, for example, it needs to be rebuilt from the inside,” says Father Rustic, dean of the Yahotyn district. “Now, Filaret’s followers are approaching this cathedral. On April 7, on the Annunciation, they held a rally on the territory of the church.”
In the UOC (MP) they say that they do not force anyone to come to them and do not resort to the help of authorities. This is reported by UNIAN.
As is known from Gleb Yakunin, Kyiv Patriarch Filaret repented of working for the KGB in Soviet times during the Ukrainian Exarchate of the ROC. Other former Orthodox priests who transferred to the UOC-KP under the pastoral care of Filaret were also led through repentance. According to Filaret’s testimony to Gleb Yakunin, practically all Orthodox priests cooperated with the KGB authorities. Gleb Yakunin’s parishes in Russia for a long time belonged to the Kyiv Patriarchate of Filaret.
The ROC-MP has not carried out such a cleansing of past sins of fornication with the authorities and unrepentant Judases in cassocks, and in every way hinders the recognition of the UOC-KP among other Orthodox churches of the world.
