Experiment. Rats develop liver cirrhosis from crackers

Experiment. Rats develop liver cirrhosis from crackers

A chemistry teacher from Dnipropetrovsk proved the harm of the favorite food of most Ukrainian schoolchildren.

At Dnipropetrovsk school No. 25, a chemistry teacher along with her students decided to conduct an unusual experiment with the schoolchildren’s favorite foods — chips and crackers. They chose 12 rodents as test subjects. They divided them into four groups: one was fed chips, the second — crackers, the third had monosodium glutamate (E621), a flavor enhancer that manufacturers add to sausages and fast food, added to their food, and the fourth was fed grains, vegetables, and fruits.

“When you tell children that chips are harmful to health, they still eat them,” says Tatiana Deinega, chemistry and health basics teacher. “I decided that the children should see firsthand what will happen to the health of rodents after eating crackers and chips.”

According to Tatiana Deinega, the rats fed chips began to die one after another on the twentieth day. Before death, they went blind and bald. Later, an examination showed that the animals died from liver cirrhosis, a serious digestive disorder, and retinal damage.

“The liver of these animals became yellowish. This means that its cells began to fill with fat droplets and die,” explained Valentin Efimov, candidate of veterinary sciences. The condition of the rats that ate crackers was no better. The rodents from the third group, gobbling up food flavored with monosodium glutamate, became aggressive and addicted. And only those fed grains and vegetables felt great.

After the experiment, the schoolchildren said they would never eat chips and crackers again. “I feel very sorry for the rats, but the products we fed them are also consumed by people, and I feel even more sorry for people,” said schoolgirl Maria Kashirina.
