Question: Alex Shevchenko! So who is slandering and blaspheming?
The author of the program “Ugol” and pastor of the “House of Bread” church, Alexander Shevchenko, about 6 years ago recorded a program with Boris Perchatkin titled “Fiery Paths,” which he sold on his website for a long time.
After Boris Perchatkin came forward with accusations of lying against the fable-spinner Pavel Franchuk and Alexander Shevchenko’s involvement in promoting him (Shevchenko had recorded 8 films based on Franchuk’s words), Alexander Shevchenko made a statement.
He removed from sale only Franchuk’s first film, acknowledging him as a liar, and also the program with Perchatkin, labeling it as anti-church, godless activity and slander against “ministers.”

Original statement of the “Ugol” program and Pastor Alexander Shevchenko:

Over the last 15 years of the studio’s work, hundreds of testimony programs have been produced featuring a wide variety of people with dramatic fates who have experienced God’s touch. How do we select those who appear on our programs? We receive many calls, letters, and recommendations about people offered to us as guests for another interview. As we become acquainted with each of these biographies, we choose the ones most deserving of general attention. After that (if the person is completely unfamiliar to us), we submit a request to the pastor of the church where the person is a member, call their relatives or acquaintances, and other people, trying first of all to learn about the Christian reputation of the candidate proposed for the interview. After that, we strive to verify the reliability of the information the guest desires to testify about. This includes confirmation of their story from close ones and relatives (if possible), relevant documents in the case of illness, etc.

In the case of widely known individuals who have served in the church for many years, participate in evangelistic campaigns and programs, write books or articles, we do not see the need to verify evidence, since their testimonies are generally recognized and these people are known to all.

Viewers’ questions.

Q.: What are you going to do with the program of… such-and-such person? As is known, he fell into sin? How can you continue to broadcast his testimony after that?

A.: First of all, it is worth saying that we do not track the lives of our heroes, therefore we do not know what happened to whom and when, and we are not responsible for that. In some situations, after a program airs, many unforeseen things can happen. A person upon whom God’s mercy was once shown may stumble and fall into sin. What do we do with his testimony in that case? Despite this sad fact, we keep the program on air only because it testifies to God’s mercy and faithfulness, not about human worthiness or unfaithfulness. If all testimonies of God’s glory manifested in people’s lives, who later fell into sin, were removed from broadcast, then it would be necessary to remove from the Bible the accounts of Samson’s exploits, remove the books of Solomon from the canon of Scripture, etc.

Q.: How can you prove that the stories of some of your guests about the afterlife are truthful? Are you not responsible for what you put on air?

A.: Actually, that’s not so. Information in programs of this kind is left to each person’s discretion. Just as the program “Position” expresses only a point of view in response to various phenomena and questions of our time, without claiming absolute reliability or objectivity in judgment.

Q.: What if the information your guest tells turned out to be false? In that case, you become complicit in the lie, is that so?

A.: If we reason in this way, then Christ too is a participant in lies, having called Judas an Apostle, yet he turned out to be His betrayer. Everyone understands that we would never produce a program in which untruth is present. However, if such is discovered later, after thorough investigation and receiving confirmation, we remove that program from broadcast.

Also falling under this category are guests of our programs who have openly begun to engage in anti-church or consciously godless propaganda, spreading defamatory lies about ministers, criticizing and degrading the church, etc.

At present, for the above-stated and other reasons, the UGOL studio has withdrawn a number of programs. Here are some of them (Tatyana Belous, “Vision of Heaven and Hell”; Boris Perchatkin, “Fiery Paths”; Pavel Franchuk, Part 1, “Extraordinary Incidents in the Army”)

It is worth noting that we are able to remove these programs only from the broadcasting networks of television channels that we own, or with which we have official relations. As for the majority of internet portals that rebroadcast our programs, we do not have access to them.

Sincerely, Pastor Alexander Shevchenko
