Video: Tongues, baptism in the Holy Spirit, and heretics who teach to renounce it

For a long time we cooperated with Baptist apologists to expose distortions of the Gospel in charismatic, Pentecostal, and former Baptist churches within the AUCECB (interestingly, they hardly notice distortions of the Gospel in their own Baptist Council of Churches).
The Baptist teaching about the unnecessary nature of baptism in the Holy Spirit after believing and the unnecessary nature of tongues, or the existence of only some sort of national language, could be considered merely a religious dispute. But we have encountered a far greater spiritual dislocation.
Baptist apologist Albert Isakov interviewed the author of the book “The Holy Spirit and the Deceiving Spirits in the New Testament Period,” “Agncev”—Grigory Avramenko. The book was written in 1965 with the knowledge of the KGB and the Commissioner for Religious and Cult Affairs under the USSR Council of Ministers, Kuroedov, and with the blessing of a KGB affiliate—the Baptist union AUCECB, its General Secretary Alexei Bychkov, and the senior presbyter for Moldavia, Karl Sedletsky. The book is filled with insinuations and slander against Pentecostals, fabricated by the KGB to label Pentecostals as fanatics and justify genocide against them. The book was intended for Baptist readers, to create an image of the enemy—the Pentecostals. “Agncev” was not imprisoned for this book, although he should have been prosecuted under articles 10, 190, 210, 142, and 227 of the RSFSR Criminal Code, facing at best seven years of strict-regime labor camps and five years of exile.

This book is unconditionally accepted on faith by contemporary Baptist apologists. It can be read on Albert Isakov’s website “Heresy-Net.” Here are some of the accusations against Pentecostals made by “Agncev”: “…. Pentecostals, as a rule, all without exception live the life of a carnal Christian… they do not abide in the Word of God ….. they do not abide in Christ; the mystery of Golgotha is not revealed to them, therefore they do not preach Christ Crucified….. Instead of Christ, they impose on everyone other tongues and power that is not subject to God… The feelings of the deceived are overwrought, the mind is fettered, the spirit paralyzed, the conscience weighed down and darkened. They love acute sensations, perverted joys and ‘spiritual consolations.’ Usually they are dreadfully fearful; believing in the bad, they expect misfortunes and troubles. They pray to God who abides within them or in the atmosphere, but not to the One who … Some believe in the power of Satan and fear him, while others teach that he does not exist. Faith in God does not grow, but only the degree of trust in the spirit grows. As a rule, their eyes are dull, apologetic; the gaze is timid, fearful. The face reflects shades of the spirit of fear. For some reason he smirks, something, somewhere, twitches a little. It is clear that something is wrong with him. Shadows of slight convulsions flit across his face. He grimaces, wishing to appear spiritual, but he does not succeed. Then he tries to please you in some way, so that you still acknowledge him as spiritual, and then, if possible, he will try to make you the same as he is… By all appearances, the inner world is disordered; there is no peace in the heart; a certain sickliness, unsettledness, and disharmony is felt. No psychological equilibrium of soul, tranquility of spirit, no calm and steadfast gaze in the eyes can be observed… a constantly present trait is discernible—this is fear. Fear of man, fear of prison, of betrayal, fear of God’s punishment here on earth and in eternity, fear of blaspheming the Holy Spirit, morbid suspiciousness, oversensitivity, exaggerated significance of phenomena, light-mindedness, trust in fantastic rumors. Not infrequently, flattery, people-pleasing, servility prevail… During times of persecution, Pentecostals were extremely wary and therefore believed every absurd rumor; they could take everything amiss, interpret it in their own way, believe in things that did not really exist. They are highly impressionable, often nervous, irritable, and always seek their own; many of them experience feelings of self-accusation, undergo moral self-scourging, easily fall into panic, especially if a prophet predicts something bad or some threat from the authorities looms… The children of deceived Pentecostals are often born with obvious signs of mental perversion. In one family the children are so nervous and irritable that they are real psychos. They explode for a reason and for no reason, quarrel, cry, fight. In other families, on the contrary, they are sluggish, indifferent, with strong inclinations to vices.…”

Albert Isakov interviews him and then accepts in person the revilings against Pentecostals, in which “Agncev” calls them fanatics who desire the murder of “Agncev,” and fascists. In the end Albert fraternizes with “Agncev.”

With such accusations

False teachers who teach that there is no baptism in the Holy Spirit as an event for which one should zealously seek after believing, and no unknown tongues accompanying the baptism in the Holy Spirit according to Scripture. They teach to renounce other tongues in direct communication and through their websites, mocking them.

Under the guise of defending the gospel from sinners, and of their own pious life, they want to remove from the prayer life of believers in the Lord Jesus Christ tongues and the necessity of the baptism in the Holy Spirit, which the Lord Jesus Christ gives.

“Apologetics” that actually leads a person to renounce speaking in tongues (as they disdainfully call it “glossolalia”) and the necessity of being baptized in the Holy Spirit does not flinch from using false witnesses and slander from the past, from the dark Soviet past—an 85‑year‑old author of a slanderous book against Pentecostals, which was written in 1965 with the knowledge of the KGB and the Commissioner for Cults under the USSR Council of Ministers Kuroedov, which is intended for Evangelical Christian Baptists and describes Pentecostals as a fanatical cult.
