In Sacramento, a family of Ukrainian religious refugees-Pentecostals was brutally murdered

On October 23, 2012, in Sacramento, the family of Ukrainian Pentecostal religious refugees was brutally slaughtered. Alina Bukhantsova (née Oliferchik), 23, and her two children: Emmanuella, 3, and Avenir, 2, were savagely stabbed to death by their brother-in-law/uncle (husband’s brother) 19-year-old Grigory Bukhantsov.

29-year-old Denis Bukhantsov left for college classes on Tuesday morning. Approximately 7 hours later, at about 3:30 p.m., Denis returned home to the duplex on DeSoto Drive in Rancho Cordova and discovered his 23-year-old wife Alina Bukhantsova (with a knife in her throat), 3-year-old daughter Emmanuella, and 2-year-old son Avenir stabbed to death. Realizing that his 6-month-old son Mark was not there, Denis rushed to check on him in the cradle in his room. He had hidden under a blanket with his little eyes covered and was asleep. Denis says that his eyes were red from prolonged crying. Denis is very grateful to God for His mercy that Mark survived.

He covered his son with the blanket and ran to the neighbors to call the police for help.

The Bukhantsov and Oliferchik families forgave Grigory Bukhantsov for the murder of their wife/daughter/sister-in-law and children/grandchildren in the Name of Jesus Christ. “He has brought us much sorrow, but he is our brother, and we still love him and forgive him,” said Daniil Bukhantsov on behalf of the family in an interview with a local TV station.

Press secretary of the Sacramento Police Department, Sergeant Jason Ramos, announced that the young woman was brutally murdered along with her children. “Everything indicates that the young woman died in severe agony,” Ramos said.

Witnesses say the murder scene was so bloody that even seasoned professionals emerged from the house with trembling hands.

Multiple knives found in the house were used by Grigory in the murder. Was he testing them, or did they not cut right?!

Grigory slit the throat of Alina and her 2-year-old son and stabbed them in the torso. 3-year-old Emmanuella died from a knife wound to the heart.

Denis and Alina Bukhantsov took in Denis’s younger brother, Grigory Bukhantsov, on Monday, October 22. Grigory was wet from the rain and had nowhere to spend the night. Denis testifies that Grigory was calm and showed no signs of aggression. He stayed overnight, and the next morning, after Denis left for college, Grigory slaughtered Alina and the two little ones.

The family minivan, a Dodge Grand Caravan, was stolen by Grigory. At about 2 a.m., police in the northeastern Sacramento suburb of Rocklin found the minivan at a Denny’s restaurant, 30 km north of the murder scene. Bukhantsov was found sleeping in a tent canopy of the Denny’s restaurant in Rocklin with a pile of purchased cheap food.

Police took Grigory Bukhantsov at 2 a.m., interrogated him for hours, and at 6 a.m. on Wednesday filed the People of the State of California’s charge of murdering Alina and his two nephews—the children of Alina and Denis. Grigory has already expressed a desire to commit suicide in prison “like Soltys.” The infamy-demon of the Ukrainian-Sacramento maniac does not leave him.

According to testimony, Grigory was an aggressive teenage drug addict from the backslidden youth of the Bethany church. By some accounts, he not only bought drugs but also distributed them among his wretched friends in the church.

According to the testimony of Florin Chyuryuk, former manager of the Slavic Community Center, who knew him for many years, Grigory Bukhantsov came to America as a good boy and became a troubled teenager who dropped out of high school.
Grigory grew up as an apostate from God, which is why his father Alexey tried to correct him. For this, Grigory repeatedly slandered his father to the police “for forcing him to pray.” Because of these police calls based on Grigory’s slander, Alexey Bukhantsov was registered as a criminal in the state of California.
The corruption of Grigory, like many children of believing parents, took place in Sunday school (in this case, the “Bethany” church, where the well-known exposed, hyper-“religious” KGB agent Romanov was in charge).

On August 9, 2011, Aleksey Bukhantsov applied to the family court to obtain a restraining order against his son Grigoriy Bukhantsov for himself, his wife, and 11 other family members (including his son Denis and daughter-in-law Alina — Denis’s wife). The reason for this order was three recent attacks by Grigoriy on family members, with his threat to kill them “like Soltys“.

Nikolay Soltys is a serial family killer from Adam Bondaruk’s church, who killed 6 family members, including his pregnant wife and a 3-year-old son, luring the boy with Walmart toys to a dump and having sodomized him before stabbing him to death.

The latest rampage by Grigoriy Bukhantsov in the family involved throwing furniture and hitting his father, Aleksey Bukhantsov, so hard that he fell. The lawsuit filed by Aleksey Bukhantsov on August 9, 2011, describes the incident perpetrated by Grigoriy Bukhantsov against his father in the presence of his brother Nazar: “Damaged the family kitchen table by knocking it over in anger. Grabbed a chair and waived it and shook it around and hit the ceiling making a hole in it and threw it until broke. Slapped me in the face so hard I fell. He was using profanity while doing all of this. Was threattening to kill family members like “Soltys” did starting from me and to burn the house while everyone is sleeping.“

Another lawsuit by Aleksey Bukhantsov was filed against Grigoriy on November 4, 2011, about the beating of his sister Mariya Bukhantsova: “First Gregoriy begin yelling threats at his sister Mariya. Then he began hitting her in her stomach and face, broke her cell phone. He started making death threads to Mariya. Nazar Bukhantsov witnessed the entire episode. He was scared, ran away and asked the neighbors to help. Gregoriy was under influence of alcohol and drugs and began yelling and threatening the neighbors. Then the neighbors called the police and Gregoriy was arrested and in jail for 23 days. Mariya has bruises. Gregoriy hit Aleksey (father) and David Bukhantsov (brother) in their faces, damaged household items and property (holes in walls), says threats on a day to day basis.” — written in the lawsuit.

Andrey Bondaruk, the former neighbor of the Bukhantsov family in Carmichael, said that Grigoriy brought trouble to the family: he beat his sister, harassed the neighbors. “Trouble is too mild a word. He made serious threats. He compared himself to Soltys.”

Grigoriy threatened to “come at night with his friends (from the troubled youth of Bondaruk’s church), block all exits, and set the house on fire while everyone was sleeping.”

In December 2011, Grigoriy Bukhantsov was arrested for burglary in an upscale area of Carmichael, when he broke into a house and stole an iPad. He was sentenced to 1 year in prison, but was released after a few months on probation. At the end of October 2012, he was due in court for some violation.

One of the presbyters of the “Bethany” church, Stepan Skots, told the American Republican channel “Fox News” that despite the help offered at church, Grigoriy could not control a demon that appeared in high school: “Something happened inside him. He started using drugs. He became wild (uncontrollable), aggressive, sometimes insane.”

About 6 months ago, Bishop Adam Bondaruk of “Bethany” visited the home of Grigoriy Bukhantsov’s parents in Carmichael, an eastern suburb of Sacramento, together with Grigoriy after his release from prison. In the Bukhantsovs’ house, Bondaruk told Grigoriy: “Grigoriy, you are a young man. Everyone makes mistakes. My children make mistakes. We go through all kinds of trials. You must stop behaving like this.” At this, Grigoriy jumped up from the chair and made a statement that frightened everyone, testified Florin Chyuryuk, who was present. Chyuryuk testifies that it was as if Satan himself had entered him.

Then his father Aleksey Bukhantsov, his wife, and youngest son left their home in Carmichael, California, and moved to Sedalia, Missouri. The reason for the move could also have been that Aleksey Bukhantsov was registered as a criminal in the state of California based on slanderous denunciations by Grigoriy when he was still in school.

When the Bukhantsov family left California, Grigoriy turned to the pastors of the Bethany church for financial help to buy a bus ticket to follow his parents to Missouri.

After his parents fled, Grigoriy began visiting his brother Denis and Denis’s wife Alina, who stayed in Sacramento, as if nothing had happened. He slept on their couch and helped himself to their refrigerator, says Chyuryuk.
Grigoriy couldn’t get a job because of his criminal record, and he had no place to live after his parents left. For a while he stayed with Pavel Tsymbal. “I took him with us to church (Bethany). But he didn’t want to change,” said Tsymbal. Tsymbal refused to let Grigoriy keep living there about a month ago. “I saw him a week ago, and his eyes looked crazy (possessed),” adds Pavel Tsymbal.

When he appeared before the judge on Friday, according to the testimony of the free public defender the judge appointed for Grigoriy, “tears came to his eyes.” A psychiatric evaluation of Grigoriy is being conducted. It has been preliminarily determined that he committed the murders consciously. Grigoriy Bukhantsov appeared before the judge in a cage reserved for especially dangerous criminals, under the escort of 4 sheriff’s deputies (on his way out he was accompanied by another dozen)! The People of the State of California are seeking the death penalty.

Alexey Bukhantsov, the father of the family, is originally from Voronezh. He married in Mariupol, where he lived until leaving for America in 1997 under the Lautenberg Amendment, as Pentecostal refugees. Alexey Bukhantsov’s family and his wife’s family belonged to the persecuted, unregistered, underground Pentecostal church (Bondaruk, for example, belonged to the registered church—he had registered a church in Estonia, for which he was removed from ministry during the Soviet era). The Bukhantsov family is a genuine Christian family with principles of piety, purity in childbearing, and refusal to cooperate with the KGB. Previously, the Bukhantsov family belonged to the church of Nikolay Geles, but for some reason they switched to Bondaruk’s church—the largest Ukrainian-Russian church in America, with 10,000 members, Adam Bondaruk’s “Bethany”—in which they became members. In Carmichael, an eastern suburb of Sacramento, they were neighbors of Bondaruk until they lost their home and moved into a rental.

Alina Oliferchik was born on October 1, 1989, in the city of Kobrin, Brest Region, Belarus, into the Pentecostal family of Vyacheslav and Nadezhda Oliferchik. She was the first, long-awaited, and tenderly loved child in a large family (with 10 children). Alina grew up a joyful and affectionate girl with a constant smile on her face. In 1998, when she was 9 years old, her family received refugee status under the Lautenberg Amendment and found shelter in America. Her family became members of Adam Bondaruk’s church “Bethany.” In 2007, Alina graduated from school. Immediately after graduation, she made a covenant with the Lord.

Alina met Denis Bukhantsov on a missionary trip with the “Bethany” church and married him in that same church on April 26, 2008.

Before being laid off in 2009, Denis worked as a draftsman at Macauley Architects in Sacramento. He took care of the children while Alina completed her bachelor’s degree in child development at California State University, Sacramento. She hoped to work as a teacher. In the meantime, she taught children in Sunday school at the “Bethany” church.
After Alina finished her studies, Denis returned to studying engineering and design at American River College.

On March 29, 2009, Emmanuela was born—the firstborn of Denis and Alina Bukhantsov. Emmanuela loved singing Christian songs, knew many little poems by heart, and loved reciting them.

On June 21, 2010, their first son was born—Avenir Bukhantsov. Avenir was a very modest, calm, and sweet boy who dearly loved his baby brother Mark.

Thanks to the sensitive Christian upbringing provided by Alina and Denis, the children grew up obedient, inquisitive, and close, bringing joy to everyone.

On April 23, 2012, their third little one, second son Mark, was born—the one God destined to remain alive.

Alina was a caring and loving mother, wife, and friend. She also poured all her strength into raising her children according to biblical principles. Her favorite Scripture passage, upon which she also based her prayers to God, was:

“Now therefore, let it please You to bless the house of Your servant, that it may be before You forever; for You bless, O Lord, and it shall be blessed forever.” (1 Chronicles 17:27)

Denis tenderly loved his wife and children. They lived in harmony and happiness, serving as a good example of a good Christian family. They maintained the warmest and closest relationships with relatives and friends. Their loved ones deeply cherished the family of Alina and Denis and often visited each other, sharing joys and concerns.

According to the testimony of loved ones, in her final days on earth Alina was especially zealous in seeking, meditating on, and speaking about God. Therefore, they have no doubt that the Lord Himself prepared them for the transition to their heavenly homeland. They were longing for a better, heavenly country; therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.

Denis recounts how he found Mark alive: «When I looked at her I realized that Mark was not there. And I rushed to my room and realized he was in his crib. He had covered himself with a blanket. It looked like he had cried a lot, since I had not been home for almost 7 hours. And all that time he was in his crib. He most likely cried a lot, because his eyes were red. But he was asleep then. I removed the blanket from his face, from his eyes and found that he was alive. It was something… Thank You, Lord — he is alive! (cries) I didn’t pick him up right away, I ran to call the police.»

Denis Bukhantsov, many times with tears in his eyes, thanked God for saving Mark: «Thank You, God, that I still have Mark. Thank You, God, that I still have Mark. Thank You, God that he is alive, Thank You, God that he is alive. I have someone for whom I will live. I will try to take care of him as much as possible. (Alina) was was the best mom. I could say many words, but it won’t change anything. This is a huge loss for me and for all of us, for the family… It’s hard to speak right now.» As Denis spoke, 6-month-old Mark often interrupted his father with his cooing, holding tightly onto his dad. Denis smiled back at him. Mark glanced upward, as if seeing Someone there.

Alina’s mother Nadezhda Oliferchuk spoke through tears about her daughter: «I hope I will see her in heaven.»

A police sergeant from the city of Rancho Cordova said that this case is «the worst we have seen in many, many years.»

David Bukhantsov, the brother of Denis Bukhantsov, said: » Love and peace were always in their family. « He added that Denis and Alina were a couple to be emulated for his family and other families around. He spoke about how Alina prepared breakfast every morning and about the love they had for each other. According to him, the murdered little ones were bright. The older 3-year-old daughter Emmanuela knew and loved stories, recited poems by heart, and sang children’s Christian songs. She had already learned the Russian and English alphabets and had begun to read, David said.

Alina greatly valued motherhood and considered her children a blessing from the Lord. Denis and Alina were strong in their faith. Denis served by preaching at the Bethany church, and Alina as a Sunday school teacher for children. They were a couple that others wanted to emulate.

And this tragedy is nothing new in Sacramento — there was Soltis and others. And I know that drugs are sold in the back rows and parking lots of churches, and when a red little light appears in the auditorium, that’s a signal that drugs have been delivered, and the pastors know about it.

I am very sorry that church leaders bury their heads and say that this doesn’t exist. And this hypocrisy produces children like these, who do what they do.

And California’s prisons are bursting with arrested children of believing parents. Because the church lives a double life, double standards — at home they are one way, at church another, and they talk about something completely different. And children, like sponges, look not at our words but at our behavior. And from this everything comes: disappointment, and children cannot tolerate this lie, hypocrisy. They leave and find an outlet on the street, with their peers. I wrote an article about this in the newspaper “Three Minutes of Silence,” in which I raise this topic, and this silence, this hushing up, has been going on not for three minutes but for many years in Sacramento.

Viktor Pokidyuk: I do not consider it right today to speak against pastors. I am addressing parents who have children, and I tell them, flee, take your children away from big churches, from the 2nd Slavic Church of Bright, the Bethany church, and find your children a church where you can sit with them, pray and weep. Formally, the court has already charged the young murderer with the killing of three members of this family. Authorities are not yet disclosing the motive for the murder, continuing to interrogate the detainee.

However, lawyers are already claiming their client has mental health issues, adding that he abused drugs and alcohol.

Alina and her 2-year-old son died from stab wounds inflicted to the neck and torso; 3-year-old Emmanuela died from a blow to the chest.

A spokesperson for the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, Jason Ramos, says that investigators found several knives at the crime scene. They are now being identified.

Public defender John Perkins, who visited the detainee in his cell the day before, says he found the alleged perpetrator «deranged and bewildered.» He also added that he believes it is right to hold the suspect in the psychiatric unit of the jail, as investigators fear the detainee might commit suicide.
