In Latvia, a prayer house of Orthodox Old Believers burned to the ground
According to information from the press center of the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) of Latvia, an ancient Old Believer prayer house in Rikava parish, Rēzekne region, was completely destroyed by fire this past Wednesday. The church is beyond restoration. Firefighters arrived at the scene within ten minutes, but the one-story building was engulfed in open flames, and its ceiling had collapsed.
Firefighting efforts were hampered by the fact that the nearest hydrant was a kilometer away from the site. A criminal investigation has been launched.
All icons and items of church plate were consumed in the fire, reports “Blagovest-info”.
