“Perchatkin’s biography played a key role in drawing the attention of the American people and government to the plight of Protestants seeking asylum in the United States,” stated the Chairman of the U.S. Congressional Commission—Congressman and current Democratic Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer.

Thanks to the efforts of Boris Perchatkin, hundreds of thousands of persecuted Christians from the Soviet Union received asylum in the United States of America. For many years, under threat of punishment and risking his life, Boris conveyed to the Western public information about the unimaginable violations of religious freedom that were taking place in the USSR but were carefully concealed by the authorities. For his anti-Soviet activities, the atheistic regime twice sentenced him to terms in labor camps, where he spent many years, suffering for his faith and subjected to brutal torture for his work to free Christians of the Soviet Union.

“Defendant Perchatkin, being one of the leaders of the Pentecostal sectarians in the city of Nakhodka, Primorsky Krai, and since 1980 secretary of the so-called Council of Churches of Evangelical Christians-Pentecostals in the USSR, since 1976 began actively participating in measures aimed at organizing a mass exodus of Pentecostals from the Soviet Union to capitalist countries. He himself and together with his like-minded individuals fabricated, signed, and distributed to international organizations and foreign figures appeals, statements, and letters which contained slanderous fabrications defaming the Soviet state and social order… Based on the foregoing and guided by Articles 301-303 and 312 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR, Boris Georgievich Perchatkin is to be found guilty…” (from the verdict of B. Perchatkin, “Fiery Trails”).

Today, Boris Perchatkin is an influential human rights defender who is listened to in the highest government institutions of the United States. Exposing the working methods of the KGB against Christians in the Soviet era, Boris reveals a striking similarity with the tactics used by the governments of the former Soviet Union countries to this day.

Boris Perchatkin, (pastor of Pentecostal church) former prisoner from former USSR. My whole family was repressed in former USSR. My grandfather was executed as a Baptist pastor, my mother was imprisoned three times, my wife was imprisoned twice, as well as I was imprisoned twice. I am engaged in activity in ARRC since 1975. Because of it I was prosecuted two times in former Soviet Union and spent five years in GULAG. ARRC monitors religious activity on the territory of former USSR. Information we received, usually shared within organizations that have interest in such activity, also in US Congress and US Senate. Our information included in a yearly report of religious freedom in the US Senate and US Congress. Tree times I was invites as a speaker on hearing in Congress Commission about religious status in former USSR. Now I am the president of the ARRC, pastor of Russian Pentecostal church in Seattle, WA, as well as a chairman of an association of former prisoners of Faith.
