The new Bible translation 'Good News' distorts the New Testament

God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book;
and if anyone takes away anything from the words of the book of this prophecy,

The table shows the difference between the modern Russian Bible translation edited by Kuznetsova and the classic translation of the Synod of the Orthodox Church. The modern translation is based mainly on 2 corrupted scrolls of the New Testament. It is similar to modern English translations, such as the New International Version (NIV, New International Version). The Synodal translation and its English counterpart, the King James Version (KJV, King James Version), on the contrary, are based on 5000 (five thousand) manuscripts of the New Testament.
Virtually all translations of the New Testament of the Bible made into English after 1898 are based on these two truncated manuscripts. The same applies to most translations into other languages that are recommended by most churches.

Work on the translation “Joyful News” began in the mid-1980s, with the blessing of Fr. Alexander Men, who dreamed of a Russian translation of the Holy Scripture understandable to the widest circle of people, both believers and those seeking a path to God. The translation of the New Testament was undertaken by Valentina Nikolaevna Kuznetsova — a parishioner of Fr. Alexander, an editor at the “Russian Language” publishing house, a classical philologist by education. In the early 1990s, individual parts of the New Testament in V. N. Kuznetsova’s translation were published by the “Nauka” publishing house.
Since 1991, V. N. Kuznetsova has been a researcher at the Russian Bible Society. In 1992-1993, she underwent an internship at the University of Aberdeen (Scotland) under the guidance of one of the foremost New Testament specialists, Paul Ellingworth, and continued work on the translation. Upon completion of the internship, she was awarded the academic degree of Master of Theology.
In 1995, the Board of the RBO decided to prepare a translation of the Bible into modern Russian. The New Testament portion was based on the work of V. N. Kuznetsova. The scholarly and editorial commission included Anatoly Rudenko, Igor Kozyrev, Hegumen Innokenty (Pavlov), Sergey Tishchenko, and Eduard Yunts. Cecily Gurvitz – an editor with forty years’ experience at the “Russky Yazyk” and “Sovetskaya Entsiklopediya” publishing houses – was invited for literary editing. David Clark served as the chief scholarly consultant on behalf of the United Bible Societies.
The project participants were guided by the modern principles of translation developed in the 1940s by the renowned linguist Eugene Nida and successfully applied in many translations of Holy Scripture. According to these principles, the translation should accurately convey the meaning of the original rather than follow the foreign text literally. The “Good News” translation is based on the critical edition The Greek New Testament, ed. by B. Aland, K. Aland, J. Karavidopoulos, C. M. Martini, and B. Metzger (Stuttgart, 1993). The most authoritative exegetical and textual commentaries on the books of the New Testament were used, and the experience of the Good News Bible, New International Version, New Jerusalem Bible, Revised English Bible, New Living Translation, Die Bibel in heutigem Deutsch, and Santa Biblia. Dios Habla hoy was taken into account. Great attention was paid to reflecting the stylistic features of the New Testament authors by means of modern language. Over five years, the editorial commission and the translator discussed more than 9,000 comments and suggestions. To help readers better understand biblical realities and worldview, the translation is accompanied by historical and philological notes. Additionally, the most significant textual variants in the New Testament manuscripts are noted.
Philologists and historians, New Testament specialists from various Christian confessions, participated in reviewing the translation: Sergey Averintsev, Anatoly Alekseev, Hegumen Hilarion (Alfeyev), Fr. Alexander Borisov, Andrey Grafov, Mikhail Kulakov (senior), Irina Levinskaya, Evgeny Rashkovsky, Mikhail Seleznev, Gennady Sergienko, Natalia Trauberg, Alexander Khosroev, and Fr. Georgy Chistyakov.
In 1998–2001, parts of the “Good News” translation were published: “Letters of the Apostle Paul,” “Evangelist Luke: Good News. Acts of the Apostles,” “Evangelist John: Good News. Letters. Revelation,” “Letter to the Hebrews. Letters of James, Peter, Jude,” and “Evangelist Matthew: Good News.” The high demand for these books, which went through several editions, showed that the translation was relevant and sought after by contemporary society.
In 2001, the RBO Board decided to release the complete “Good News” translation. A reader questionnaire is enclosed with the first full edition of the New Testament. Feedback will be taken into account during further text editing.
