Believers Imprisoned in Germany — Indeed, All Who Desire to Live Godly in Christ Jesus Will Be Persecuted (at Any Time and in Any Country)

We are very concerned about the persecution of our brothers and sisters in faith, Heinrich and Irina Vins, Arthur Vins, Eduard Vins, Elisabeth Thiessen, Lydia Fröhlich from the city of Salzkotten, who are being persecuted because they seek to bring up their children in the faith and in obedience to the Word of God. The Christians did not allow their children (elementary school pupils) to attend sex education lessons and did not permit them to take part in theatrical performances. For this, fathers and mothers of large families were fined, but refused to pay the fines because they do not consider themselves guilty, since they acted according to their faith and conscience, aware of their responsibility before God. Now, they have been subjected to enforced prison sentences ranging from 10 to 43 days.
The right to raise children is entrusted to parents both by God Himself and according to the law. The Constitution of the FRG proclaims: “Freedom of faith, freedom of conscience, and freedom of religious and worldview convictions are inviolable” (Art. 4, para. 1). “The care and upbringing of children are the natural right of parents and their first and foremost duty” (Art. 6, para. 2). The Sixth Additional Protocol to the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms also guarantees parents the right to raise children in accordance with their own religious convictions: “The State… shall respect the right of parents to ensure such education and teaching in conformity with their own religious and philosophical convictions” (Art. 2, para. 2).
We, Evangelical Christian Baptists, out of love for our Savior and for people, strive with all our hearts to fulfill God’s commandments, which are the ideal of goodness, morality, and ethics. Christian parents, conscious of their responsibility before God and society for the upbringing of the children entrusted to them by the Lord, seek to teach them what is good, to instill in children respect for elders, respect for work, a desire to lovingly serve God and their neighbors, and to protect children’s hearts from every kind of evil. Sincerely loving our sons and daughters, we want their childhood to be chaste and truly happy, illuminated by the light of God’s mercy and truth.
We are deeply concerned about the future of Christian families who, despite the general decline in morality, try to bring up their children on a biblical foundation and to protect them from negative influences. Therefore, we petition for the cancellation of the fines and the enforced imprisonment of the Christians in Salzkotten. We ask you not to hinder our brothers and sisters in faith from raising their God-given children according to their convictions, in the instruction and admonition of the Lord.
We pray for you. May Almighty God grant you the wisdom to act justly! May the Lord bless you and help you to look into this matter, so that you may use the authority given to you for good and stop the persecution of Christian parents.
